July 10th, 2015: Chicago Blackhawks acquire Trevor Daley, defenseman, and Ryan Garbutt, right wing, for Patrick Sharp, left wing, and Stephen Johns, defenseman

Initial Reaction: The Blackhawks had to trade Sharp and everyone knew it. They needed to shed his high-priced salary to get under the cap. The Stars would not complete the deal without Johns included. The Blackhawks also needed another top-four defenseman, and they thought they got cap relief and a top-four defenseman with Daley.

Current Assessment: The Blackhawks miss Sharp and his 43 points from last season. He is excelling with the Stars with 14 goals and 17 assists. Johns is currently playing the AHL for the Stars. Daley was a bust with the Blackhawks. He had 6 assists in 29 games with the Blackhawks. He played in 14:46 minutes per game with the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks and Daley both realized it was not working, Daley was traded away for Rob Scuderi.
