February 27, 2015: The Blackhawks acquired Kimmo Timonen, defenseman, from the Philadelphia Flyers for 2015 second-round pick and 2016 fourth-round pick.

Initial Reaction: The Blackhawks got a veteran defenseman to bolster the blue line down the stretch. He was coming off an injury (blood clots) but had been cleared to play.

Current Assessment: Timonen winning the Stanley Cup and retiring a champion was a great story. It is one of the top stories of 2015, but the move did not benefit the Blackhawks at all. Timonen appeared in 16 regular season games playing 11:59 per game and was a minus-3. In the playoffs, he appeared in 18 games and played 8:40. He had zero points. He was virtually ineffective. By the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup the fourth-round pick turned into a second round pick in 2016.
