#5 – The Blackhawks Know How to Weather this Kind of Loss

Again, if Shaw were to be traded away it would certainly be a loss, but believe it a not, the Blackhawks have suffered departures of players like Shaw before, multiple times, and by and large haven’t missed a beat. The likes of Dustin Byfuglien, Dave Bolland, and Ben Smith, to name a few, were all Andrew Shaw-estque players that skated for the Blackhawks for various stretches during the past six years.

Like Shaw, they all were hard-nose role-playing fan favorites that helped the ‘Hawks hoist one or more Stanley Cups. Yet, as essential to the ‘Hawks success as they were perceived to be, they all ended up leaving via the trade market, and today their names are scarcely mentioned in Chi-Town circles. This pattern shows Stan Bowman has correctly prioritized the player personnel the ‘Hawks need to succeed, and if the aforementioned players serve as any type of example, it stands to reason Shaw may not be on the right side of these priorities.
