The Chicago Blackhawks Offseason Schedule Of Events

The Chicago Blackhawks summer started way earlier than anyone had hoped or expected when the St. Louis Blues eliminated them in an excited 7 game opening series.  So instead of looking forward to another playoff series we have nothing else to do except look forward to the summer events that are planned, so let’s take a quick look at what’s on tap this summer for the Chicago Blackhawks.

NHL Awards Show- June 22

Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane already won the Art Ross Trophy, but the suspense will be if Kane wins the Hart trophy as the NHL MVP, it would be the first time a Chicago Blackhawk had won the Hart trophy since Stan Mikita took it home way back in 1968.

Artemi Panarin will also be in the mix for the Calder trophy for Top NHL rookie, the last time a Chicago Blackhawk won the Calder was none other than Kane back in 2008.  It should be a fun night for Chicago Blackhawks fans.

NHL Draft- June 24-25

The Buffalo Sabres and the First Niagara Center Host the 2016 NHL Draft.  The consensus #1 draft pick is Auston Matthews, and to lesson the suspense for Chicago Blackhawks fans, the team has no pick in the first round because it went to the Winnipeg Jets when they traded it for Andrew Ladd.

The Chicago Blackhawks also don’t have a 2nd round pick, but they do have 7 picks from the 3rd round through the 7th round with 2 4th round and 2 5th round picks in 2016.

Free Agency- July 1

The free agency period will be the biggest worry for Chicago Blackhawks fans when it kicks off in 2 months. There are a lot of questions to be answered including who is staying and who is going.

The Chicago Blackhawks unrestricted free agents are:

The Chicago Blackhawks restricted free agents are:

So as you can see Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman has his hands full juggling the NHL salary cap once again this summer, the only difference between this summer and last summer is that he’s not coming off a Stanley Cup so the decisions that are made will more than likely be more scrutinized.

Chicago Blackhawks Fan Convention- July 15-17

The Chicago Blackhawks fan convention is one event that has just gotten bigger and bigger each season.  It’s a great time for fans to get some one on one time with their favorite Chicago Blackhawks players while sitting in on some fun Q & A sessions with past and present Chicago Blackhawks legends.

I expect that besides the normal fan favorites like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, the biggest autograph to be sought after will be that of rookie Artemi Panarin. It’s a fun weekend for those that attend.
