Good Morning Chicago Blackhawks fans!
Well after a couple of days of thinking about it, for the second straight year the Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman at least got something for a player that had priced himself way out of Chicago salary cap hell they currently reside in.
Last year during the season and the playoffs everyone expected Brandon Saad to be a player that was in the Chicago Blackhawks core for a decade, and everyone expected him to sign a bridge deal, and then all of a sudden huge numbers were being thrown around for Saad’s next contract and then poof the next day Saad is a Columbus Blue Jacket.
Bowman did good getting Artem Anisimov in the trade, but the Chicago Blackhawks top line never was the same last year with Saad’s speed and scoring ability on it.
Move to this year and when the Chicago Blackhawks moved Bryan Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen in a cost cutting move to the Carolina Hurricanes, once again the player that’s contract was up seemed to be able to stay now, but then the numbers Andrew Shaw was hoping to get from the Hawks were way too high.
Even when he settled for 6 years at 3.9 million AAV in Montreal this is just way too high for what the Chicago Blackhawks pocket book can afford right now. At least Stan got a couple of picks and hopefully one or both will pan out one day in the NHL.

My only thought is how many Stanley Cups could have the Chicago Blackhawks won in the past decade if this wasn’t the salary cap era?
