The Chicago Blackhawks are finally back home after their season long 7 game road trip thanks to the circus. Today we take a look at some of the numbers through the first two months of the season.

70.8%

This has to be the hardest stat to swallow still through two months.  The Hawks penalty kill was so bad the first month of the season that it’s still almost an entire 5% behind the second to last team in this category the Calgary Flames.  That being said the PK has been much improved since Dennis Rasmussen carved out his niche on this unit.

The Chicago Blackhawks rank 10th in the NHL is goals scored per game.  They seem to score in bunches lately, but before the Circus trip they were the most consistent scoring team in the NHL until they started getting shut out on the road.  I miss the days back when the Hawks scored 5 goals seemingly every other night, but I have a feeling the young kids are about to start scoring a lot more.

47.9%

This number scares me more than most.  Without Jonathan Toews in the lineup it was even worse with the Blackhawks winning about 27% of all faceoffs.  Artem Anisimov is terrible at faceoffs which makes possession of the puck a struggle at times for the 2nd line.  Marcus Kruger and whoever centers the other bottom 6 line has to improve quickly in this category.

Corey Crawford is 4th in the NHL with minutes played among all goalies in the NHL.  Crawford is a workhorse and is sporting a career high .924 save percentage which is even higher when it’s 5 on 5 action.  If you are looking for a stat that explains the Chicago Blackhawks success so far this season all you have to do is look at how good a season both Crawford and Scott Darling are having. If they start to falter start worrying about the 2nd half of the season.

Patrick Kane is still a point a game player this season, and it seems like he hasn’t even starting warming up yet.  I’m not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing, but I want to believe he’s about to get red hot and start piling up the points like he did last season.  He’s been juggled around on lines more than last season, so let’s see if December brings us plenty of goals in our stockings.

There’s one thing that Joel Quenneville loves and that’s winning which the Chicago Blackhawks have been able to do more than anyone else in the Central Division.  Will they be able to keep winning while getting out shot, losing faceoffs, and not possessing the puck is to be seen, but the one thing they have more than the rest is the heart of a champion.
