Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The Chicago Blackhawks season can be summed up pretty easily so far this year. Great Goaltending!
The Chicago Blackhawks have not played like they are the best team in the Western Conference in all stages of their game, but they have played well enough in some and outstanding in others to be able to make that claim.
One place where they have been great has been in between the pipes, and there hasn’t been a downgrade with Corey Crawford having to miss a few weeks due to an appendectomy. Scott Darling has stepped into the leading role for the Chicago Blackhawks and the goalie hasn’t missed a beat.
Tuesday night he recorded his third career shut out stopping all 22 shots the Coyotes fired at him, and he looked just as sharp as Corey Crawford has looked in net this year.
One thing the Darling alluded too was getting regular reps in net now, while knowing he’s the man for the next few weeks has given him a huge boost in confidence.
In 20 games started Crawford has a 20-6-2 record with a 2.27 goals against average and a .927 save percentage while collecting 2 shutouts.
In 8 games started Scott Darling has a 5-2-1 record with a 2.39 goals against average and a .919 save percentage while picking up 1 shutout.
So as you can see there really isn’t that big of a drop off with Darling in net which is huge for the Chicago Blackhawks because if you throw out the Coyotes game they don’t have a huge margin for error in any of these matchups. They need their goalie to come up huge in spots time and time again.. No pressure Scott!!
