Alex DeBrincat caught the attention of Chicago Blackhawks fans after he was drafted by the club last year before earning OHL Player of the Week honors
Drafted 39th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft, Alex DeBrincat has been turning heads with his exciting play with the OHL’s Erie Otters this season.
The Farmington Hill, Mich., native is listed at 5-foot-7, 165 pounds, but don’t let him fool you with his slight size. While DeBrincat isn’t the biggest guy on the ice, he has proven to be one of the more productive ones.
In the past two seasons, DeBrincat has had 100-plus points, scoring 51 goals in each season. He is currently on pace to have his best season yet, having already scored 44 goals in 45 games. His OHL Player of the Week honor earlier this season came after he tallied 11 points in just three games, and he is now the Otters’ all-time leading scorer
This week, Twitter has been blowing up with constant tweets from the Erie Otters and analysts who cover the OHL on DeBrincat’s great performance. Blackhawk Up had to investigate what all the racket was about. So we reached out to The Hockey Writers’ Mark Scheig, who covers the Otters, to get some more info on the Blackhawks prospect.
