Special Teams and Keys to the Game

Minnesota’s special teams have consistently ranked among the league leaders all year. Why?

DL: Well it’s because the Wild struggled so much last season on special teams.  They really made it an emphasis in the offseason and brought in great assistants to run them.  John Anderson on the power play and Scott Stevens on the penalty kill have installed great systems and seem to get the max out of each unit.

Finally, what are the keys to a Wild victory over the Blackhawks?

DL: Don’t turn the puck over.  Kane and Toews always make you pay for mistakes…they don’t miss on odd-man rushes or breakaways.  Also, the Wild will need to come out swinging with lots of shots and offensive zone time.  They have to shock Crawford early and not let him into a groove.

Many thanks to Puck Gone Wild’s Danny Lambert for sharing his candid thoughts on the Minnesota Wild. With a four-point swing potentially in play Sunday morning, let’s hope the Blackhawks can get firing on all cylinders again to earn two big points, win the regular season series, and sow the seeds of doubt upon the Wild.
