Players to look for in free agency

Sam Gagner

Gaining steam in the last few days leading up to Free Agency,

Sam Gagner

and the Blackhawks have expressed mutual interest in reaching a deal. After runs with the Oilers, Coyotes, and Flyers, Gagner was running out of places to go in the NHL and was on his “last chance” with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He made the most of his one-year, $650,000 contract and posted a career-high 50 points and 18 goals. A former teammate of

Patrick Kane

‘s with the OHL’s London Knights, Gagner could slot into the second or third-line center option for the Blackhawks if the price is right.

Karl Alzner

  • After nine seasons with the Washington Capitals, Karl Alzner is on the Free Agent market and has gained interest from Chicago. Alzner is a former first-round draft pick, but never truly reached the potential the Capitals saw in him. Granted, he has always shown the ability to be a more than serviceable NHL defenseman. Even though 2016-17 wasn’t Alzner’s best, with the thin defensive depth that the Blackhawks have, a proven NHL veteran under the age of 30 would be a welcome addition to the blue-line.
