9. Ian Mitchell, defenseman

Drafted just last month, defenseman Ian Mitchell came to camp ready to play.  At just 18 years old, the Blackhawks’ 2017 second-round pick handled his own among the other prospects.

He was often paired with fellow Denver Pioneer defenseman Blake Hillman, and they did a great job facilitating the puck in the offensive zone.  Mitchell will spend his freshman year at Denver, which won the NCAA championship last year and is set to be ranked No. 1 in college hockey this year.

His development on a winning team with a model similar to that of the Blackhawks should help his progression immensely.
