I’m among a probably-small group that believes the Avalanche could finish the 2017-18 season worse off than the expansion Vegas Golden Knights. Although the Avs are inexplicably leading the Central Division so far this preseason, the group is still being dragged down by not trading Matt Duchene yet. The Avs will need Semyon Varlamov (.951/1.29) and Jonathan Bernier (.940/1.84) to do all regular season what they’ve done this preseason in order to actually contend.
