No. 14 – Washington Capitals

Previous: No. 4

The Caps were sent home early again by their arch rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, when they went all in with the addition of defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk last season. Captain Alex Ovechkin scored just 33 goals, his lowest total since 2010 when he scored 32.  But this year it seems like Ovechkin found his scoring touch, notching two consecutive hat tricks already.  The Capitals continue to have an extremely powerful offense even though they did lose some depth over the summer.  Hopefully this year the Caps can find the X-factor that can get them by Pittsburgh.
