Henri Jokiharju, D (Finland)

2017 – 1st round, 29th overall

It can be odd calling a first-pair defenseman who regularly plays with Duncan Keith a “prospect.”

While the decision to send the Chicago Blackhawks D-man to the World Juniors created some discussion, the move was rewarded by the success Henri Jokiharju and his team found.  I found myself in the “for” column here.  Sending Henri off to build some confidence and be a leader with players close in age and size will likely pay dividends when he returns to Chicago.

Jokiharju racked up 7 points (2G, 5A) in the tournament, taking the Gold Medal with Finland.

He provided an assist on the game-winning goal in the gold medal game.  Think that will boost his confidence?

It’s also worth noting that GWG came from the stick of Kaapo Kakko, making his case for 1st overall pick this summer.

But that discussion is for another time.

Next. A New Year for the Blackhawks. dark
