Erik Karlsson and the San Jose Sharks came to terms on a mega-deal. The Blackhawks can now swoop in on these potential cap casualties.
Karlsson was one of San Jose’s biggest UFAs and they locked him up with a long term deal. The two parties finalized an 8-year, $92 mil ($11.5 mil AAV) contract. This deal will have significant ramifications going forward for the Sharks.
San Jose is currently projected to have $12.5 mil in cap space this offseason, but they have a long list of restricted and unrestricted free agents to make a decision on.
A few of the notable Sharks that could become cap casualties are captain Joe Pavelski, Gustav Nyquist, and Joonas Donskoi — talk about blood in the water.
This is the perfect opportunity for the Blackhawks to swoop in for some instant upgrades. They also need a replacement for the recently traded Dominik Kahun.
