The 2017-18 Chicago Blackhawks saw what could have been the end of an era. The team started off with a huge win against the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins on home ice. After that, they really didn’t get much going.

The Blackhawks were coming off of a first-round sweep from the Nashville Predators and looked to bounce back. The team got rid of defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson, forward Artemi Panarin, and Marian Hossa was forced to retire.

This was also Alex DeBrincat‘s rookie season where he shocked the Blackhawks’ fanbase by leading the team in goals. The team lost Corey Crawford due to injury and as they say, the “wheels fell off the bus”.  Crawford would come back, but only played in 28 games. He led the team in wins with a 16-9-2 record.

It was heavily debated that the Blackhawks fell off due to injuries and losing some key players. Seeing how well Crawford played when he was on the ice gave the team hope for the next season.

The Blackhawks would end up landing the eighth pick in the 2018 NHL Draft due to their unsuccessful season. That draft pick was used to draft Adam Boqvist.
