Jonathan Toews was just 21 years old when he won his first Conn Smythe and captained the Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup in 49 years.

Toews was the ultimate captain, winning faceoffs, killing penalties, and scoring goals. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that he was most deserving of the Conn Smythe trophy that season.

Toews put up 29 points, including 22 assists to help bring the cup to Chicago. Looking back I think it is amazing how young he was and how dominant he was. Toews was one of the youngest captains at the time, and he was already putting his mark on the league.

To help you put it in perspective, Alex DeBrincat is 22 years old and has not had the success that Toews did at his age. Toews went from being the third overall draft pick in 2006, to win the Stanley Cup four years later.

Players like Toews and Kane do not come along that often. The young generational talents often do not get instant success the minute they break into the league, just look at the last player on this list to see the truth in that.
