3 – Chris Chelios

Chris Chelios served as captain of the Chicago Blackhawks for only four years, but he is one of a few defensemen that have served as captain in team history. From the years 1995-1999, Chelios was captain of the Blackhawks during a time where things were starting to turn ugly for the team.

Chelios made the ‘Hawks respectable, and if it were not for him, the team’s dark years would have started earlier. Yes, it hurts that Chelios went on to play for the Detroit Redwings, but that was not his choice.

Chelios registered 92 goals and 395 assists throughout 664 games with the Blackhawks throughout his career. He is going down in history as one of the best blueliners in team history, and he is an example of a player I believe the team wishes they could have had back.

There are several deserving candidates to be in this position on the Blackhawks top three captains, but in my opinion, Chelios was a little bit different from the other guys on this list. Only two other captains rank higher.
