Dylan Strome can be one of the Blackhawks next great centers.
Right now, the center position is a position of strength for the Blackhawks. Chicago has Jonathan Toews, Kirby Dach, Dylan Strome, Lucas Wallmark, David Kampf, and Ryan Carpenter, all at the center position.
Toews, Dach, and Wallmark could be a fine enough top three center grouping in Chicago, but if you want to plan for the future, Strome should be around. Jonathan Toews is not going to play hockey forever, and even if he does stick around for five or so more years, he is not going to be able to keep up the tasks of a top-line centerman.
Keeping Kirby Dach and Dylan Strome around together gives the Blackhawks a great one-two punch at center. The Blackhawks have never been a team that had a great second-line center, and trading Strome is just going to let that problem continue down the line.
Dylan Strome can be one of the next great centers in Chicago Blackhawks history. He has potential and has even shown flashes of great hockey so far in a Blackhawks uniform.
Getting Strome under contract and back in Chicago next season is hopefully a top priority for Stan Bowman and the Blackhawks. However, I would have thought getting Corey Crawford a contract would also be a top priority for the Blackhawks, and we all know how that ended.
