2 Nick Leddy

Nick Leddy spent the 2011-2014 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks before being traded to the New York Islanders. Leddy won the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2013, and it is hard to imagine how different this defense could look if they kept him around.

Leddy had a speed that very few other defensemen have had in Chicago in recent years. He was able to break up ice and carry the puck into the offensive zone better than many other defenders, but doing this often left the defense exposed with Leddy too deep into the offensive zone.

Leddy never really found favor with Joel Quenneville, plus when the defense has Keith, Seabrook, Oduya, and Hjalmarsson, they didn’t really need to turn to Leddy all too often. The main reason Leddy is on this list is while he was an up-and-coming young defenseman with Chicago at the time, he is primarily only remembered for this moment.

Alec Martinez OT Goal to send Los Angeles to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014 was deflected off of Nick Leddy. This is by far one of the worst moments during the Toews and Kane era, but Chicago would be back next season.
