Of all of the former Blackhawks on this list, Jimmy Hayes seems to have faded from the limelight the most. However, he has actually played for a number of NHL teams and has put up respectable offensive totals.

A standout at Boston College, Hayes comes from a pure hockey family. His brother Kevin scored 23 goals last season for the Philadelphia Flyers, and his cousins include the Tkachuk brothers and current New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald. Although his hockey pedigree is impressive, he has never had quite as much success in the NHL as his brother.

Sadly, he only ever scored six goals over his three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. Perhaps he just wasn’t a great fit in the Windy City, as his numbers improved significantly after he moved on to the Florida Panthers in the 2014 season. He is definitely the perfect third-line grinder, and he showed it with Florida and then, afterward, a stint with the Boston Bruins.

The 31-year-old unrestricted free agent played last year for the Pittsburgh Penguins’ AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He scored thirty points for the team and has shown that he is still more than capable of playing a decent role for an NHL club, even though it may not be a large one.
