Dominik Kubalik did have a great season last year, but can he follow that performance up with something even better next year?
Thirty goal scorers do not grow on trees in the NHL. Kubalik is going to be asked to replicate that performance again next season while also going above and beyond. Stan Bowman and company proved how much they believe in Kubalik when they re-signed him this offseason and traded away another winger in Brandon Saad.
Now Kubalik and Jonathan Toews will be out looking for a linemate in training camp hopefully within the month as they try to form their next top line. Kubalik with Toews and Saad proved to be a very competitive lethal line as they did score a lot of goals through the final months of the season last year.
I think the one thing that concerns me with Kubalik is the thought that he could be a one year wonder with this team. Think about players like Alex DeBrincat, who went from scoring 41 goals to scoring 18 the following season, not that impressive by any means.
Sophomore slumps are expected in the NHL, but for Chicago to keep winning and find a way to be as successful as possible, they will need Kubalik to keep being one of the team’s best forwards.
