6. The Salary Cap Situation Should Provide Support

The Blackhawks have a lot of salary cap room right now due to how many contracts they have on injury reserve. They might be able to use that money to take on a bad contract for this season, and in doing so bring in a competitive player for this season or further down the line.

The Blackhawks have a number of young rookies on this team on expiring deals. Brandon Hagel, Pius Suter, and even Mattias Janmark are all looking for a contract at the end of the season. Knowing Bowman does have some room for the first time in a long time is nice to see.

The flat salary cap is also going to be helpful for the team. Some contracts might not be as large as they would have been without the flat cap, and other teams that do not have as much room as Chicago might be forced to make a bad deal that they normally would not have made.

I think Bowman and company will be relatively quiet with their cap space during this season, but this summer and next season might be an entirely different story.
