2. Can Jonathan Toews bounce back?

The Blackhawks haven’t had Jonathan Toews play in a game since their first-round exit against Vegas last season. The team is missing their captain. There is no doubt that he will be the voice of the team when he comes back again, but there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the captain.

Jonathan Toews is the best center, best defensive forward, and best all-around player the Blackhawks have. Who the team decides to play with him will be interesting to see. Personally, I think Toews would be a great fit with Brandon Hagel and Dominik Kubalik, however, Vinnie Hinostroza has also been good in a similar role.

3. Who gets a contract and who walks away?

There are a number of Blackhawks on expiring deals, Hinostroza, Gaudette, Suter, Kampf, Hagel, and Zadorov. These players are going to need new deals and the Hawks do not have a lot of space to work with.

The team also has Alex Nylander finishing up his current contract. Nylander has not played since last season and missed the year due to an injury. With all the different rookies factoring into the lineup and playing well it will be interesting to see if the team decides to keep Nylander and in what role.
