It’s never easy to say goodbye to a legend. It’s even harder when that legend leaves and puts on another sweater rather than hanging up their skates. It feels like you lost a friend, as 16 years with the ‘Hawks is longer than many of us maintain relationships with friends, spouses, or co-workers.

Athletes of our favorite teams almost become surrogate families, and over time, Keith certainly has managed that. Saying goodbye to family is never fun, never easy, and never leaves you feeling good.

But the time was right for the ‘Hawks to move on, and the time was right for Keith to start a new chapter, as he heads towards the end of his spectacular career in the NHL. I wish the best of luck and health to Keith as he lines up for the Oilers and hopefully has an enjoyable 2 years as a part of that organization, and closer to what matters most to him; family.
