2. They trade him
The Chicago Blackhawks could trade Fleury to one team most likely – the Pittsburgh Penguins. Because of the nature of the deal and Chicago giving up very little to add Fleury I do not think Pittsburgh is going to be willing to toss Chicago a first-round pick for the Vezina Trophy winner.
Chicago would have to hold back some salary to get the deal done for the Pens as they do not have the cap space to add Fleury. Maybe the Blackhawks hold back 2 million, and then Pittsburgh sends Tristan Jarry over in the deal.
Jarry did not have a good season last year, but a bounce-back campaign with Lankinen and Jarry splitting the net wouldn’t be bad. Plus the Blackhawks defense is better this season and should help make things a little easier on the goalies.
That said, I do not know how much of a market there is right now to trade for a goalie. Dallas has a few too many netminders and Seattle is pretty good with Driedger and Grubauer maybe they can take Driedger from Seattle for a draft pick next season. Just something to keep an eye on should Fleury ask to be traded.
