1 Connor Murphy
Connor Murphy has been the Blackhawks’ best defenseman for a while now. While that is a position he has kind of struggled with at times, he has made the team better and tougher to play against every time he has been on the ice.
I think Murphy is going to have a great season. He no longer is going to be thrown in a number one defenseman-styled position as the team now has Seth Jones and Jake McCabe to help form a pretty good top four.
The only way the Blackhawks do manage to be competitive for the next few seasons is if they have a good defense locked in for the new few years. That means getting Murphy extended right away. If he wants four of five million I think this team gives it to him for three or four seasons. Murphy is 28 and has been playing with the roster since being traded here in 2017. He is now one of the longest-tenured players on this roster and did really well in a leadership role this past season.

Making sure Murphy is locked in with this team for the remainder of his career is something this team needs to do. Yes, they have young defensemen waiting in the wings to get into the lineup, but taking Murphy’s spot is not something any of them will be doing as he is an aggressive checking defenseman something not many of the young rookies does very well.
