2. The Seattle Kraken
The Seattle Kraken are an interesting candidate for a Strome trade because I see it as a salary cap move with the Kraken. In addition to trading Strome to the Kraken, the Hawks could also send Brett Connolly who is signed for another two years at 3.5 million.
That cap space is critical to the team when it comes to adding that final boost of talent for a cup run next season during Toews and Kane’s final year under contract. If Chicago could send Strome and Connolly to the Kraken for a third-round pick I find that to be a success for both parties.
The Kraken add two NHL players and the Blackhawks clear cap space and get another third-round pick in return. Yes, maybe the return for Strome might be nicer closer to the deadline or without Connolly, but I still think that would be a good move for the team.
Seattle has cap space, and a move like this would land them a former third overall draft pick that can be one of the faces of the franchise if he managed to turn things around in a new market.
