Everyone can gain from having a good preseason:

Even though I just talked about six players above, everyone on the roster will benefit from showing up and having a good preseason during the next few weeks. Guys like Philipp Kurashev and Riley Stillman might think they have spots on the roster, but this league is about what players have done for teams lately, not how things went last season.

It is important that all the players on the team have a short memory and go out and do their best to succeed now. Otherwise we might see some shocked players end up in Rockford as there is just not enough spots this season for everyone.

The same way all these players have a lot to gain this preseason, they also have a lot to lose. The competition within the Blackhawks only locker room has arguably never been tougher. The entire bottom six has so many potential fits that it is hard to find room for some “locks” for the roster.

Even one player might have a lot of skill, going into the season the team is going to ride the hot hand of different players, so a good performance in a preseason game might be the difference between starting the year in the lineup and starting the year scratched or in Rockford.
