The Chicago Blackhawks “welcome” the Vancouver Canucks to the United Center Friday. The Blackhawks and the Canucks have become bitter rivals recently. The rivalry didn’t start to boil over until 2008-09 when Former Blackhawks player Dustin Byfuglien took some liberties with Roberto Luongo. Alex Burrows then retaliated by pulling Duncan Keith’s hair during a fight. Keith would exact some revenge in 2012, by elbowing Daniel Sedin in the head. Former Blackhawks Adam Burish would trade verbal barbs with Former Canucks Shane O’Brien. The elbow would knock out Sedin until Game 4 of their first round playoff series. Keith would get five games for his elbow shot to Sedin. Raffi Torres would take this rivalry to a new stratosphere when leveled Marian Hossa with an extremely dirty hit.

For the next three seasons, the Blackhawks squared off in highly contested playoff series. The Blackhawks bested the Canucks in 2008-09 and 2009-10. In 2010-11, the Blackhawks were defeated by the Canucks in their first title defense in an epic seven game series.

This video sums up their rivalry:

With the rivalry being renewed on Friday night, we thought we would list off the three most hated (current) Vancouver Canucks:

1. Alexandre Burrows: Alex Burrows was involved in the fight with Duncan Keith in 2008-09 when the rivalry heated. He also scored the game winning goal in Game 7 of the 2010-11 Quarterfinal Matchup. This goal eliminated the Blackhawks and helped propel the Canucks onto their run to the Stanley Cup finals. Burrow will not play in Friday’s matchup because of a broken jaw.

2. Ryan Kesler: Kesler is a great player and usually a line mate of Patrick Kane’s on team USA. That doesn’t mean he is friendly toward the Kane during NHL play. Kesler was asked who he has more pleasure stopping Kane or Jonathan Toews. He answered Kane, but he said it wouldn’t be easy. Kesler is also a Selke trophy winner.

3. Daniel Sedin & Henrik Sedin: The Blackhawks hatred of the Sedin “Sisters” goes on long before Dave Boland dubbed them “sisters”. In 1999, Daniel and Henrik Sedin both declared that they wanted to play for the same team. The Blackhawks were fleeced in the Canucks moves in order to acquire the Sedins. Daniel and Henrik are no angels in this rivalry. Daniel delivered an illegal hit to Keith before receiving his elbow to the face. Daniel and Bolland would take cheap shots at each other regularly.
Dishonorable mention: Former Canuck and Current Shark Raffi Torres is the MOST HATED PERSON ever to play in this rivalry. Torres’ hit on Marian Hossa is still one of the dirtiest hit’s in this rivalry. Former Blackhawk Jamal Mayers dropped the gloves with Torres while he was with Phoenix. The Blackhawks players and their fans still hate Torres. The Blackhawks will never forget.

Honorable mention: Roberto Luongo is a favorite of the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks love playing Bobby Lou because they light him up! Patrick Kane recorded a hat trick against Bobby Lou in 2008-09. Ben Smith became a Blackhawks favorite when he scored the game winning goal on him in game six of that same series. The Blackhawks faithful love to chant his name as Chelsea Dagger plays in the United Center. Did you know that Luongo would have accepted a trade to only the Blackhawks and Panthers back in 2012?

This is for you Bobby Lou:

The Blackhawks and Canucks will pour gasoline on their rivalry this Friday at the United Center.
