Sidney Crosby Asked Jonathan Toews For Permission To Wears “C”

Jonathan Toews has garnered a lot of respect in his young NHL career. In six and half seasons, Toews has been a two time all-star, nominated to the NHL all-rookie team, Conn Symthe Trophy winner, Selke Trophy winner , Olympic Gold Medalist, and two time Stanley Cup Champion. Recently Toews received another accolade, he was named an Alternate Captain on the 2014 Canadian Olympic team. Toews took this honor in stride and handled it in a humble manner.  This is the type of behavior Blackhawks fans have to come to expect from our beloved Captain. A story was released on Wednesday 1/22/14 by Team Canada and Red Wings Coach Mike Babcock. Babcock stated that Sidney Crosby wanted to make sure it was okay with Toews that Crosby wore the Captain “C”.

Babcock praised Toews saying that “He’s earned the right to be a captain with Canada: two Cups, Olympic gold, I don’t know what else he’s won. It seems more than that,” Babcock said. “He’s a pro who does it right every day. He’s a 200-footer. Toews was flattered by the compliment and praised Crosby. Toews stated “I’m honored to be in the conversation to be the captain for Team Canada”. Toews would go onto to say that , ““For Sidney to ask guys for approval, I don’t think he needed to do that, but it shows the kind of guy he is, I’m sure (Babcock) said that to be polite. This sign of respect from Crosby and comments from Babcock should make Blackhawks fans smile. The ultimate signs of respect in sports are praise your peers and praise from the best players. As much as it pains to me say this, Crosby is one of the best players of all time and he just showed Toews the ultimate’s signs of respect.  The answer Toews gave to the compliments will endure him to Blackhawks fans even more.

He might be the Alternate Captain on Team Canada, but he is the Chicago Blackhawks Captain. He is our captain for our city and it warms all of our hearts!

The Winter Olympics start on February 3^rd. Team Canada will square off against Norway on February 13^th.
