Chicago Blackhawks: Bernie Nicholls Days Until Banner Raising

facebooktwitterreddit

We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Blackhawks raise their 6th Stanley Cup Banner on October 7th season opener against the New York Rangers.

It’s day #92 until the Chicago Blackhawks will raise their 3rd Stanley Cup Banner in 6 seasons to the rafter of the United Center, and it sure feels like the dog days of summer have arrived with little or no hockey stories out there.  We do have prospect camp coming up to look forward to, but after the two month marathon to the Stanley Cup everything sorta feels like a downer right now!

There have been two players in Chicago Blackhawks history to wear #92! One was a point per game player during his 1,100 plus games in the NHL while another one played for a very long time in the NHL on some very bad teams.

Bernie Nicholls played on the 95 teams that went to the Western Conference Finals before bowing out to the Detroit Red Wings.  He scored more than a point a game in his 107 game stop with the Chicago Blackhawks.  Here is a look at his stats.

Michael Nylander was on the Chicago Blackhawks during three of their worst seasons and moved on before their rebirth.  He didn’t have bad stats, but they are pretty much in a blur of badness in franchise history.

Moving on to our player countdown from last season. If I were to make a change in last year’s rankings, I probably would have taken our #92 listed player out and put in Brent Seabrook, and I probably would have Seabrook lower in the coundown as well because of his clutch play in all three of the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup runs.  Here is what we had to say about #92 last season.

"Eric Weinrich Blackhawks careerGames-356Goals-21Assists-92Points-113+37Penalty Minutes-309Game Winning Goals-4PlayoffsGames-38Goals-2Assists-10+/- +11Eric Weinrich played over 1,100 games in the NHL with some of his best seasons coming in a Blackhawks jersey.  He came the closest to the Stanley Cup Finals with the Blackhawks in their 1995 run to the Conference Finals.  There of course is reasons to dislike Weinrich because he was part of the trade that sent Steve Larmer to the Hartford Whalers before he ended up with the New York Rangers.Weinrich was a solid defenseman which always makes it hard to rank in all-time lists since they are hard to rank because of their lack of offensive numbers but during his 7 seasons in Chicago he still ranks 111th in franchise history on the points rankings and is tied with Brandon Saad at #31 in the +/- category in franchise history with a career +37."

There you have it! We are 92 days away from another Banner raising festival at the United Center!! Can’t Wait.. Can you?
