Chicago Blackhawks: Dan Cleary Days Until Banner Raising

facebooktwitterreddit

We had so much fun doing our Countdown to Faceoff series last season that we decided to do it again.  In case you’re new to the series, we’ll do a roster preview as we count down the days until the Chicago Blackhawks raise their 6th Stanley Cup Banner on October 7th season opener against the New York Rangers.

We are down to 25 short days in our countdown, and I decided today to throw a curveball in the countdown and throw out a name of a player that hasn’t played for the Blackhawks since the 90’s but still is in the NHL.

It seems weird but every year about this time the Detroit Red Wings find a reason to bring Dan Cleary back to their roster.  Cleary started his career with the Blackhawks scoring 4 goals and 5 assists in 41 games before being thrown in a big trade to the Edmonton Oilers.

Cleary hoisted the Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings in 2008 and like the Energizer Bunny he keeps going and going.

The last significant player on the Chicago Blackhawks roster to wear #25 was Viktor Stalberg, and even though he was the part of the 2013 Stanley Cup Championship he sure wasn’t a Joel Quenneville favorite. Stalberg was a favorite doghouse member of Coach Q, and in the end he was let go when he became a free agent when the Nashville Predators signed him in 2014. Here is a quick look at the rest of the #25’s in Chicago Blackhawks history.

11. Cam Barker-2006-2010 One of the few #3 picks overall that hasn’t worked out in Chicago sports history. The best part of Barker is that he was traded for Nick Leddy. During his Blackhawks 200 game career, Barker scored 17 goals and 63 assists.

We are down to 25 days and you can almost smell opening night!
