Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans!

The Chicago Blackhawks are in the middle of summer 2016 with most of the big free agents gone, but there are still some bargain basement deals to be made with the lower tier free agents still around, and Stan Bowman made a signing yesterday that looks to be a replacement for Andrew Shaw and could mean another year in Rockford for Ryan Hartman.

The problem with the team last year at the beginning of the season was there were too many Andrew Shaw type of players of the team.  You had Shaw, Hartman was around and Ryan Garbutt was here too meaning too many players playing the same type of role.

This coming year there may only be two Shaw types with yesterday’s signing of

Jordin Tootoo

and the presence of Ryan Hartman who’s greatest highlight came on his first NHL shift ever but hasn’t really done anything since that play.

Shaw had some talent to go along with some knuckle head moves and annoying play, the problem is Tootoo is just another Brandon Bollig with a very limited game that will be able to drop the gloves 25 times a season.  It seems like a typical Stan Bowman signing to appease Joel Quenneville‘s need to have a veteran presence on the roster which he really doesn’t need anymore since the roster and core continue to march towards thirty, they aren’t teenagers anymore and really don’t need 30 year old vets to protect them.
