Chicago Blackhawks Morning Links- T-Minus 42

Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The days on the calendar continue to shrink as we look ahead to the Chicago Blackhawks season opener on October 5th. 

Let’s be honest, October is exciting to look forward to, but September will be quite a ride too. The rookie tournament in Traverse City is the first one in a few years that I’m really excited about.

The roster for the tournament hasn’t been released yet, but it hasn’t been since Teuvo Teravainen was a prospect that I’ve been this excited to see what all the young Chicago Blackhawks can do especially a nice stage like the rookie tournament.

I’m not doing a preview, but this will be a huge moment for Alex DeBrincat to turn heads in the organization because it sure seems like no one as of right now is expecting him to make the roster out of training camp this year.

Remember it was this showcase with a very strong preseason that got Kyle Baun on the opening night roster a few years ago, so don’t think there is some merit to these games and making big impressions.

Later in September training camp and preseason games will begin, and I can’t wait to see how the masses react when the Hawks start giving up a lot of quality chances because the defense is bound to struggle without Niklas Hjalmarsson and a cast of new players not ready for the expanded roles just yet.

As stated earlier, the season could depend on what kind of season newly acquired Connor Murphy has for the Blackhawks.  Sometimes players like Murphy thrive when they change franchises. One thing is for sure, he is happy and excited to be a Blackhawk!
