Good Morning Chicago Blackhawks Fans!

The Chicago Blackhawks and the NHL are in the middle of the dog days of summer, and yet there is the Jimmy Vesey sweepstakes taking place this week which makes the summer at least a little more exciting than the news of which current Blackhawk has put his up for sale.

The thing about the Vesey watch as we talked about a little yesterday in the morning links is that the Great Expectations of him coming and being a very good NHL player right off the bat might be a too high.

Yesterday we talked about Drew LeBlanc and how he was  Hobey Baker winner and never materialized as an NHL player. Another player to think about before we get all excited about Vesey if he were to sign with the Chicago Blackhawks this week is Marko Dano.

When Stan Bowman traded Brandon Saad for Artem Anisimov and Marko Dano, I thought the real prize in the trade was Dano who as a 20 year old with the Columbus Blue Jackets scored 8 goals and 13 assists in 35 games.  So it seemed like Dano would be the natural fit on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa, but Dano couldn’t even get through training camp on the top line, and was in Rockford when the season started.

So when everyone thinks that if Vesey signs he’s automatically on the top line is kind of ridiculous, because you have to really impress Joel Quenneville or your playing for Ted Dent in Rockford no where near the top line with Toews and Hossa.

There are Great Expectations with Vesey, but some of them seem unrealistic.  Time will tell, one thing is for sure and that’s the fact that Stan Bowman wants and almost needs to sign him this week.
