Chicago Blackhawks centerman Artem Anisimov was down and out at the end of the first period in Montreal tonight.

Artem Anisimov made a very good play to set up the first Chicago Blackhawks goal in Montreal tonight.  He shielded the Montreal defender from the puck, and then he got the puck into the zone and button hooked, and then gave the puck to Patrick Kane who buried it for a 1-0 lead.

The assist gave Anisimov a career high 45 points on the season, topping his career high he had with the New York Rangers.

The problem was what happened at the end of the period.  Anisimov crashed into the boards and Montreal Canadiens Alexander Radulov pinned him and Anisimov never got up until the final horn sounded for the period.

Anisimov couldn’t put any weight on his left leg as Duncan Keith helped him to the locker room.  The trainers weren’t looking at his knee which would suggest not a knee sprain, but they were looking more at his ankle so i’m not a doctor but it could be a high ankle sprain.

Either way this is bad news for the Chicago Blackhawks as they are in the home stretch heading towards the playoffs.

There hasn’t been any official announcement, but it didn’t look good and I would expect Anisimov to be out for an extended time with the hope being he be back by the start of the playoffs at first look.
