Oliver Moore will try to win another gold medal at this year's IIHF World Junior Championship. AJ Spellacy will try to make his first Team USA World Junior Championship roster.
Those are the two Chicago Blackhawks prospects who were named to Team USA's preliminary roster.
Moore and Spellacy will try to make the final 25-player roster that will be announced by December 24th. The World Juniors will be played in Ottawa this year from December 26th through January 5th.
Moore was part of last year's gold medal-winning club where he scored a goal and picked up two assists in seven games.
Moore is considered by our Ethan Gawronski as the team's third-best prospect. CHGO's Mario Tirabassi classifies Moore as a Level Two prospect, meaning he is a quality prospect/long-time NHL player. DailyFaceOff.com ranks him among the Blackhawks' top three prospects.
The team's other first-round pick in 2023 is currently skating for the University of Minnesota. He has five goals and seven assists in his sophomore season for the Golden Gophers.
Spellacy had an impressive preseason where there was a chance he could have made a case to have the Blackhawks give him a free nine-game look at the start of the season.
The Hawks front office chose to be patient with him and sent him back to Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.
Spellacy was selected in the third round of this year's draft. He was also a talented football player who chose hockey.
Ethan ranked him as the 22nd-best Blackhawks prospect on this site. Mario has him as a Level Four prospect. That is a player who is an average player with depth player potential.
He is considered one of the fastest skaters in the OHL, so there is a chance he can move up the rankings.
Spellacy has six goals and 10 assists on the season for the Spitfires. He will take a break from Windsor when Team USA's training camp starts on December 16th.
