The Christmas Eve Edition of the Daily Phil Esposito (12/24/10)

Lots in store for todays edition. There were 13 games last night in which 24 former Hawks take the ice. There were a total of 5 points scored, 3 of them goals the other 2 assists. I am not going to make this overview long because I have some long comments in analysis. Hope you enjoy. No games on the Schedule for tonight or tomorrow so there will be no Espo tomorrow. Also I will be on vacation in Las Vegas (Hopefully) Sunday till Wednesday so Bartl will have your Espo updates next week till Wednesday. Merry Christmas and I hope you enjoy this edition of The Daily Esposito.

Tuomo Ruutu – Carolina
16:33 TOI, two shots,

Sergei Samsonov – Carolina
12:52 TOI, one evil smirk

Craig Adams – Pittsburgh
12:48 TOI, one shot, 7 of 12 on face-offs
In this game Sidney Crosby extended his scoring streak to 23 games. During this streak he has scored 23 goals and had 22 assists amassing 45 points. This is unreal.  He has a total of 29 goals and 31 assists currently through 36 games, which averages out to 1.667 points per game or 136.667 points throughout the season… That is disgustingly good.

James Wisniewski – New York Islanders
18:37 TOI, one assist (17), plus two,
4 assists in his last four games. Leads team in points and assists with 19 and 17 respectively. In those four games he has had a point the Islanders are 3-0-1. They have an overall record of 8-18-6 moving them out of last place in the East.

Shawn Thornton – Boston
11:12 TOI two goals (6,7), plus two, 5 PIM, two shots

Dustin Byfuglien – Atlanta
23:33 TOI, one goal (13), minus one, three shots
37 points in 37 games for Big Buff. Playing really well for the Thrashers who fell 4-1 tonight in Boston in a game with five game misconduct penalties, three for Boston, 2 for Atlanta, which equals 118 total penalty minutes in the game

Andrew Ladd – Atlanta
16:03 TOI, minus one, 4 PIM, four shots

Brent Sopel – Atlanta
18:34 TOI, one shot

Ben Eager – Atlanta
11:39 TOI, minus one
Of those 118 previously mentioned penalty minutes Eager had 0. Wow not like Benny to not get in a fight in this type of chippy game. Maybe it is because he was a healthy scratch the last two games.

Dan Cleary – Detroit
18:21 TOI, minus one, three shots
Detroit *Spitting Noise* lost to St. Louis in this game  by a score of 4-3. This is good news for the Hawks who are 5 pts behind the Wings who have played two fewer games than the Hawks. More good news for hawks fans is that last night Pavel Datsyuk broke his right hand and will be out for a month, so hopefully Detroit *Spitting Noise* will start to fall apart in his absence.

Ethan Moreau – Columbus
14:49 TOI, minus three, three shots
Vancouver won this game 7-3. Henrik Sedin had one goal and three assists giving him 35 which is the league lead. The win made them 7-1-2 in their last 10 games and are in third in the Western Conference with a point total of 45 jsut one behind Detroit *Spitting Noise* and Dallas who are 1 and 2 respectively.

Sammy Pahlsson – Columbus
14:13 TOI, minus three, two shots, 8 of 16 on face-offs

Steve Sullivan – Nashville
14:00 TOI, minus one
After going 8-0-1 in their previous nine games, the Preds have cooled off losing their last three, placing them 8th in the Western Conferences with 40 points just one point from the Hawks who have 41.

J.P. Dumont – Nashville
15:14 TOI, one shot

Craig Anderson – Colorado
Loss (6), 11 saves on 14 shots, .786 SV%
Pulled in the 2nd period. After going 7-0-2 in his previous 9 decisions he also seems to have cooled down losing his last two giving up 8 goals and an .826 SV%

David Koci – Colorado
2:34 TOI,2 PIM
Someone better inform Duncan Keith that Koci is gaining on him in average TOI per game. This is going to be a close battle at the end of the year.

Martin Havlat – Minnesota
15:36 TOI, 2 PIM, three shots

John Madden – Minnesota
14:59 TOI, 5 of 9 on face-offs

Rene Bourque – Calgary
19:07 TOI, one assist (12), plus one, three shots, 1 of 2 on face-offs

Colin Fraser – Edmonton
12:04 TOI, 2 of 6 on face-offs
If I had to pick one guy that the hawks got rid of in their off-season full of moves, that I am glad isn’t with the team anymore, it is this guy. Fraser has 2 goals and 1 assist in 33 games this season. Last year in 70 games Fraser posted 7 goals and 12 assists for 19 points. I like the guy and all, but glad he isn’t with the team anymore with his production this year.

Adam Burish – Dallas
14:14 TOI, 2 PIM, 5 of 6 on face-offs

Adrian Aucoin – Phoenix
23:28 TOI, one shot

Radim Vrbata – Phoenix
9:08 TOI, one shot

Antti Niemi – San Jose
Win (7) 24 of 25 saves, .960 SV%
7-8-2 on the season
Phew… That was a long one… Thanks for sticking it out.
