The Chicago Blackhawks landed in Jets territory for Friday night’s matchup in a bit of a struggle, but they looked to turn it around against a team that is trying to catch them in the standings. Here is how the game played out in Winnipeg.

FIRST PERIOD

The Blackhawks came out with way more energy than they did on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild but it didn’t matter.  The Jets after weathering a Blackhawks early storm forced a David Rundblad turnover and with a lucky bounce off the referee skates, Mark Scheifele picked up the gift pass and scored rather easily over Corey Crawford.  Daniel Carcillo was back in the lineup and he had to do the traditional fight after injuring their guy the last time these two teams met ahh those unwritten rules.

The Blackhawks were hustling but they weren’t able to get anything behind the Jets goalie and the frustration is already building.  The bounces aren’t going the Hawks way lately and the first period was picture perfect painting of the last week.  There are still two periods left to turn things around.

SECOND PERIOD

The Blackhawks had to kill a 2 minute penalty at the beginning of the period and it appeared to give them some momentum. Jonathan Toews set up Duncan Keith for what looked like a goal but Michael Hutchinson made a great save and it seemed like the Blackhawks would never score again, but moments later Patrick Kane looked like he was shot out of a cannon and got behind everyone and easily beat Hutchinson for the first Blackhawks goal in 153 minutes!

The rest of the period was extremely boring with a lot of neutral ice work without much going on.  Both teams had one good chance before the horn but both goalies were up to the task.  The Hawks finally scored and go into the 2nd intermission tied at 1.

THIRD PERIOD

The Blackhawks and Jets played some more boring hockey in the third where both teams looked to be not trying to make a mistake in the period. Corey Crawford made a couple of big saves down the stretch and Hutchinson was stellar to and when the 60 minutes were up the score still read 1-1.

The overtime was the most exciting part of the hockey game with end to end action and guess who was in the middle of the game winner none other than Mr. Kane.  Kane picked up the puck and with a his juke went behind the net and centered the puck and Brandon Saad was in the right spot to bang home the winner. After Tuesday night this OT goal felt great and the smile on Saad’s face was great too!!

– David Rundblad didn’t leave the bench in the third period.

– Kane is now tied for the top spot in the NHL in the Points category at 58 after getting 2 more points tonight.

-Hawks play next in St. Louis Sunday at 11:30am!
