The Chicago Blackhawks head home after an exciting last minute victory against the Winnipeg Jets and who do they get as a welcome home guest but the hated LA Kings. Both the Blackhawks and the Kings were supposed to meet in the Western Conference Finals, but these are playoff rosters and playing great during the regular season doesn’t always happen and isn’t very easy in the NHL.
The Chicago Blackhawks have been struggling to score goals and low and behold they scored 4 goals last night in Winnipeg with 3 of them in the greasy category. Andrew Shaw scored on a rebound, Brad Richards and Jonathan Toews Game winning goal were both deflections in front of the Jets net. The only goal that was more in the Blackhawks wheel house was the Patrick Sharp breakaway which of course gave Chicago Blackhawks fans a reason to take a deep breath seeing Sharp score a goal after having so many great chances the past few weeks.
The Blackhawks are still in a dog fight and every point is crucial heading down the stretch. The Blackhawks even with all of their struggles could finish anywhere from 1st to 5th in the Central division with 7 games remaining. Tonight could be a win/win while picking up 2 points to help their playoff position they could also help make the Kings path to the playoffs that much harder.

The Kings have been playing better hockey as of late especially their stretch through the east coast, but they lost the other night to the Minnesota Wild and now face a Chicago Blackahwks team that plays to the level of their competition. The Kings like the Hawks could finish anywhere from 2nd in the Pacific Division to missing the playoffs completely which still seems like a stretch because the Kings just never ever go away. They need points though so look for a great game and effort from the Kings tonight at the United Center.

The prediction part of the program has been a real struggle lately with me whiffing badly, but there is no reason to quit predicting now. Tonight a determined Blackhawks team will play the Kings tough and in the end the Chicago Blackhawks will win 4-3 in a shootout with Brandon Saad and Teuvo Teravainen picking up goals.
