The Chicago Blackhawks travel to Detroit tonight to renew an old rivalry when they face the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena tonight. The Hawks are trying to secure first place in the Central Division where they are in a three way tie with the Dallas Stars and the St. Louis Blues, while the Red Wings are trying to secure their playoff spot and extend their long playoff streak.
The Chicago Blackhawks are coming off an excellent measuring stick victory over the Washington Capitals Sunday afternoon, and so they will be looking to build some momentum and chemistry with the new players with only a month of games left to play before the real games start.
The one new piece that everyone seemed to like in his first outing as a Chicago Blackhawk was Tomas Fleischmann, and that wasn’t even with his running mate all season long. Dale Weise is still somewhere trying to work out his visa issues, but even without Weise Fleischmann made an impressive debut doing a little bit of everything but hitting the scoresheet.
Of course the biggest addition at the deadline was Andrew Ladd, and there he was setting up the go ahead goal late in the 2nd period to give the Hawks the lead they would never surrender. Ladd, can play a physical forechecking game, and it will be exciting to see him playing that style with Marian Hossa when he returns from injury soon.

The Detroit Red Wings were a long time rival of the Chicago Blackhawks, but man it sure doesn’t seem the same since that epic 2013 Playoff series and the Red Wings disappearing to the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings are right in the middle of the Wild Card race of the Eastern Conference so this will be a big 2 points for them to pick us much as it is for the Hawks in their quest for the Central Division crown.
