Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans!
The Chicago Blackhawks prospect camp is nearing the middle stages of the week with the Group C (the group with most of the big named prospects) taking the ice today for their first scrimmage. Groups A & B scrimmaged yesterday with 2nd round pick Alex Debrincat being the standout of the day.
Group C features Nick Schmaltz, Ryan Hartman, and Vincent Hinostroza with all three of them wanting to make the jump to Chicago for good and never having to see Rockford ever again. Schmaltz as we have stated plenty of times since his signing is the player that would be the biggest asset to make the team if his game translates quickly to the NHL. The Hawks have tons of holes to fill, but the biggest one is a center on the third or fourth line depending on where Joel Quenneville settles Marcus Kruger into next year.
The other role has to be Hartman’s to lose. His game even by his own admission is patterned after Andrew Shaw. Hartman plays that annoying style of hockey while throwing his body around a lot. The only question in the Shaw comparison is will he be willing to put his body in front of the net and have the skills for deflections and rebounds that Shaw did while in Chicago.
Let’s be honest, it’s just nice to be talking about any hockey on the ice right now after that first round exit in April!
