Chicago Blackhawks Morning Links- Number 28

Good Morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! Being we are at the tale end of August let’s discuss the fact that the Chicago Blackhawks still have not retired the #28.

The Chicago Blackhawks have plenty of numbers in the rafters of the United Center, but the one number that is not hanging and is still a mystery to many is that of #28 Steve Larmer.

Larmer is at or near the top of the list of almost every offensive category on the all-time Chicago Blackhawks records. When I was a kid he was on my all-time favorite line along with Denis Savard and Al Secord.  That line could do everything from wow you to score to fight and it was the reason the Hawks were able to routinely get to the Conference Finals in the 80’s.

Of course the Hawks never could reach the Finals in the 80’s, but the Hawks made a run to the 1992 Final with Larmer being the veteran helping to lead the kids like Jeremy Roenick before getting swept by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Larmer won the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year,  and he has the third longest iron man streak of 884 games while scoring 406 goals and 517 assists before picking up his only Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers.

Larmer’s 28 should be in the rafters and he should be in the Hall of Fame, but when these accolades come a calling his name never seems to be mentioned enough. What do you think? Should #28 be in the rafters?
