Hot off the presses, the latest Blackhawks rumor is a possible Patrick Sharp return. I have to credit Second City Hockey’s mailbag for starting this gem.  I think everyone can agree that nobody wanted to trade the handsome forward back in 2015, and Sharp was another victim of the salary cap.

When the Dallas Stars started to plummet in the standings,  the rumble on twitter began. The Blackhawks should trade for Patrick Sharp. Now I was very opposed to bringing back Sharp because he did not fill a need and would cost too much. The Blackhawks seemed to agree instead trading for another former Hawk on the Stars in Johnny Oduya. To the sadness of many Blackhawks fans, Sharp would be injured at the deadline and not eligible to be traded.

Now that we are in the off-season, it looks like Sharp will be a free agent. People are getting excited about a possibly Sharp return.

Sharp Homecoming Is Not A Good Idea

Sharp coming back is not a good idea. We all seen how “homecomings” have worked in Chicago. Kris Versteeg came back with very limited success, although he did win a cup with the team. Andrew Ladd was a complete bust in his second stint with the Club. At one point, he was relegated to the fourth line.  Johnny Oduya was old and slow with the Hawks in his return.  Lastly Brian Campbell proved you cannot go home.

Patrick Sharp Is Not Coming Back

Unfortunately Sharpie does not fit the current direction of the Blackhawks. The team is going with a youth movement and Sharp is currently 35 years old. Despite being injured most of last season, Sharp has been productive away from the Blackhawks.

More from Blackhawks News

He has 55 points two seasons ago with the Dallas Stars. He was fifth on the team in total points. His 2015-16 season in Dallas, topped his final season with the Hawks.

Despite possibly being a productive player, Sharp will not return. There is no one and a million talk on this deal.

The Blackhawks need to spend money on a back-up goalie and sign some cheaper RFA’s in Tomas Jurco and Dennis Rasmussen.

Nothing To Show for the Sharp Trade

Remember when the Blackhawks traded away Sharp. Once the dust settled and all the pieces acquired in the deal were moved. The Blackhawks literally got nothing in the deal for Sharp. Heck they lost Sharp and a young defensemen in Stephen Johns for NOTHING. Hindsight is 100% but this will go down as a bad trade for Stan Bowman and crew.

Stay tuned for more rumors on the Blackhawks!
