Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! I guess when you already have a core of high priced talent you should be happy that all the team has to do is shopping for bargains.

Looking back at things, it seems like the last high priced free agent to sign with the Chicago Blackhawks was Marian Hossa, and that was back in 2009.

Ever since then the Chicago Blackhawks have been pretty much shopping at Ross or TJ Maxx to fill out their roster needs while everyone else is spending big money on free agents.

I understand the salary cap is meant to bring parody into the league, but it really hasn’t.  In the last 10 years only the Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, LA Kings, and Boston Bruins have won Stanley Cups. Now different teams have made the Finals, but it’s the teams with the GM’s that now how to work the salary cap that have been winning in this era.

I remember reading an article back in 2010 about the fact there were two different paths to choose for the Blackhawks after their first Stanley Cup in 49 years.  Pay everyone but the stars or pay the stars and then always try to find cheap replacement parts.

The model was set by the Chicago Blackhawks to pay the stars and go bargain hunting for the rest of the pieces, and that’s what the Hawks are still doing to this day with Lance Bouma and Tommy Wingels signing.

The thing is heading into this season, the Hawks need Jonathan Toews to play like a superstar once again, and they have given him Brandon Saad back so that there is no excuses!

Can’t wait to see what Joel Quenneville has in store with this roster come training camp!
