Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The Chicago Blackhawks kick off training camp today after going through their fitness test yesterday, but I would like to talk about the last 5 years.

I started with Blackhawk Up in 2012 basically looking for a hobby since online poker was gone, and with the Blackhawk Up app I saw they needed writer so I applied.

I started in January, and by September the lockout had begun and Greg Boysen had left for Second City hockey so I was all alone with no real leadership and no real hockey to talk about.

So, I decided on the first day of September that I was going to write at least one post every day of the month and see how it worked out.  Well after 14 days, the NHL Division leader of FanSided asked me if I wanted to be the Editor of the site.  I agreed 5 years ago today because they said all I had to do was write one post a day everyday which I already was accomplishing.

My next goal after taking over was to get as many writers as possible so that we could serve our Chicago Blackhawks readers in the best possible way.  I’ve had some great writers for the past five years which has built the site up each and every year.  Everyone has done a fantastic job throughout the years from Brian Kinkaid, Skylar Peters, JoHannah Lowder, Joe Kremel, Melissa Peterson, Matt Barbato, Gail Kauchak, Josh Brink, Mario Tirabassi Juilian Nikac, Tim Lively, and so many more throughout the years. Of course thanks to my co-editor Colin Likas and the current staff at BU!

More from Blackhawks News

One of the stories I tell to people about out site is when I was given the Blackhawk Up twitter feed it had 143 followers, and we decided we were going to try and live tweet every game, and every game we picked up more followers.  One night that first season we were at 480 followers and I told Brian it would be great if we could get over 500 tonight.  Well we did and 5 years later we are at over 11,000 followers.

All of this wouldn’t be possible without you the reader! So I’m very thankful that you stop by, read our posts, and occasionally drop a comment.  I’ve been able to cover 2 Stanley Cup Championships, and it’s been a blast and I can’t wait for this season to get started!  Thanks again for all of your support each and every day!
