Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The Chicago Blackhawks rookie squad headed to Columbus and put a beat down on the Blue Jackets.

Before we get carried away about preseason game #1 and a blowout, let’s say this right out of the box.  I’m very excited about what huge step in season #2 that Nick Schmaltz will show us this season.

If you want to take a quick look see here are two tweets of a goal he set up and a goal he scored.

With Joel Quenneville stating that he’s leaning toward putting Nick Schmaltz with Patrick Kane instead of Artem Anisimov my thought was has Coach Q seen anything extra from Schmaltz.  The answer from the first preseason game where he Schmaltz didn’t have anyone near the talent of Kane on his wing is a resounding yes which makes me very excited to see what he can do with the full arsenal on the ice.

The other thing that was nice to see was everyone getting on the scoresheet which to me means everyone is truly hungry for a roster spot and no one thinks they are just going to be given a spot.

Cody Franson, Jan Rutta Laurent Dauphin and Graham Knott all were on the scoresheet which is pretty exciting to see.

The next preseason game is Thursday night at the United Center, and I can’t wait to see Alex DeBrincat on the ice… hopefully!
