Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The Chicago Blackhawks head coach has repeatedly said this season that carrying 8 defenseman has been an issue, and it’s evident that he hasn’t found a good combination yet this season.

I put out this tweet yesterday morning about the game on Sunday night.

The thing is I have thought it’s very silly since the Chicago Blackhawks have broken camp to carry 8 defenseman. It seems very unnecessary and someone will always be getting enough playing time.

The only way I see it working is if Joel Quenneville was giving Brent Seabrook and Duncan Keith a night off in a rotation to keep the veterans fresh a la the NBA teams, but Coach Q has just been rotating the perceived lower level defenseman while putting Connor Murphy into doghouse mode every time he touches the ice.

The reply I received from the tweet is probably how quite a few Chicago Blackhawks fans feel right about now.

Seabrook looked really bad on Sunday night starting out with 2 straight penalties, but then even worse he was getting caught flat footed on a couple of goals.  He really hasn’t been very good this season, but Q could be hiding him if he wanted to in his rotation of 8 defensmen.  He’s not and if you watched the game Sunday night the defense is just not solid enough.

On any given night, the Hawks give up multiple odd man breaks, and at least one breakaway if not more.  The defense is doing a great job on the offensive end, but their name includes defense and that is lacking and it really starts with the Number 7!
