The Chicago Blackhawks traveled to Dallas to faceoff against the Stars for the 2nd time in 3 days for their first visit to Big D this season.  In the end they lost in a shootout 3-2 to the Stars, and here are 5 quick thoughts on the Chicago Blackhawks 2nd straight loss during overtime hockey.

5. Anton Forsberg was Very Good Except during the Shootout.

Forsberg made 33 saves on Saturday night keeping the Hawks in the game all night long.  He gave up two goals with both of them being mini 2 on 1s that he had little chance to stop.  He looked like he’s going to be able to hold down the fort while Corey Crawford gets better.

The Shootout is another thing, to keep it simple, he looked overmatched.  The first two Dallas Stars players waltzed in made a fake and buried goals.  So, let’s start winning these in regulation.

4. Jonathan Toews line got schooled

The Captain Jonathan Toews is really struggling in my mind.  He’s only scored twice in the last 17 games, and on the 2nd goal of the night for the Dallas Stars his line was on it’s heels and in the end the puck was in the back of the net.

Toews promised to change his offseason workouts to get quicker, but I’m not seeing it.  I’m not saying run him out of town, but he can’t be absorbing so many crucial minutes if his line isn’t going to produce.

3. The Powerless Play

We probably can make this a point in every game recap or thought.  The Chicago Blackhawks powerplay isn’t just not scoring, but it’s giving the other team way too much momentum.  Watching the Stars powerplay move the puck to get the shot that ends up a goal is pretty sad to watch.  The Hawks have a really hard time with their entries, and then they struggle to maintain the puck and get shots off.  It’s a real head shaker that’s for sure.

2. Nick Schmaltz is about to break out

If you ask me who I think is about to breakout my answer is Nick Schmaltz.  He’s strong with the puck, and his head is up making plays with the puck.  He’s just a fraction off scoring or assisting on goals.  So I’m expecting big things from #8 by the end of this month!

1. Good To See The Defense Generate Offense

Cody Franson scored the first goal, and Connor Murphy took the shot from the point for the 2nd goal by Brandon Saad.  The defense was getting shots through even when the forwards couldn’t. If the Chicago Blackhawks are going to be successful on offense the defense is going to have to be active and getting pucks to the net like they did tonight!

Next: What to Expect from Forsling

It wasn’t enough tonight, so what are your thoughts on the Hawks 3-2 Shootout Loss?
